708 Mental Health Referendum For Addison Township

ATDO supports establishing a Community Mental Health Board that will ensure that all residents of Addison Township have equal access to a high–quality, comprehensive care delivery system for people affected by mental illness, addiction, or developmental disabilities. The referendum question regards the levy of an annual tax (not to exceed 0.15% of the equalized assessed value of a taxable property), instituted for the purpose of providing community mental health facilities and services, including facilities and services for individuals with a developmental disability or a substance abuse disorder. 708 Mental Health Referdum For Addison Township

The Addison Township Democrats support the effort to establish a Community Mental Health Board that will ensure that all residents of Addison Township have equal access to a high–quality, comprehensive care delivery system for people affected by mental illness, addiction, or developmental disabilities.

The term 708 refers to the section of the Illinois Constitution that describes these boards and their duties, compositions, and responsibilities. Among other activities, 708 Boards:

  • Evaluating a community’s needs
  • Creating targeted local support
  • Coordinating a comprehensive system of services to help with
    • Intellectual and developmental disabilities
    • Mental health issues
    • Substance abuse issues

In Illinois, Community Mental Health Boards are created by a referendum approved by the voters. For the General Election to be held on November 8, 2022, the referendum question regards the levy an annual tax (not to exceed 0.15% of the equalized assessed value of a taxable property.) instituted for the purpose of providing community mental health facilities and services, including facilities and services for individuals with a developmental disability or a substance abuse disorder.
