Meet Your 2024 Democratic Candidates
Federal
President
Vice President Kamala Harris has devoted her career to fighting for the people.
As vice president, she’s been a trusted partner to President Joe Biden in their work to take on the powerful and make change for the people — from standing up against extremists to defending reproductive freedom to taking on Big Pharma to bring down prescription drug costs and cap the price of insulin at $35 a month for our seniors.
Vice President Harris has proudly represented the United States on the global stage in meetings with over 150 world leaders and bolstered vital alliances against tyranny abroad — and she is just as committed to stopping would-be authoritarians and dictators at home. She is leading the charge to protect fundamental freedoms, including the right to an abortion and the right to vote.
Vice President
A lifelong Midwesterner, Governor Tim Walz grew up working on his family farm. He enlisted in the Army National Guard when he turned 17, following in his father’s – a veteran – footsteps. During his 24 years of National Guard service, he specialized in heavy artillery and retired as the highest-ranking enlisted National Guard soldier in southern Minnesota. Governor Walz went to college on the GI Bill.
Governor Walz is a gun owner, avid pheasant hunter, and supporter of the Second Amendment – and he, like millions of gun owners, believes that Congress must do more to tackle gun violence in our communities. As Governor, he established universal background checks for gun purchases.
As Governor, Tim Walz cut taxes for working families, lowered the cost of insulin and eliminated junk fees, and protected women’s right to choose. That experience makes him the ideal running mate for Kamala Harris, who has taken on the big banks, led the fight for reproductive freedom, and stood with our allies against Putin’s aggression during her time as a prosecutor, Attorney General, Senator, and Vice President.
3rd Congressional District
Incumbent Congresswoman Delia Ramirez is a progressive Democrat representing the new IL-3 district as the first and only Latina Congresswoman in the Midwest. She has introduced legislation with bipartisan support to help student veterans, is co-leading the Dream and Promise Act, and introduced the Tenants Right to Organize Act.
She is an accomplished social service director, community leader, and coalition builder who has dedicated her life and career advocating for working families. As the daughter of Guatemalan immigrant parents, Delia is rooted in the values of service, community, and perseverance.
Her campaign is people-funded, people-centered, and refuses to accept corporate contributions.
6th Congressional District
Incumbent Congressman Sean Casten represents Illinois’ 6th Congressional District, located in the Chicago suburbs. Sean is committed to fighting to build a brighter, more sustainable future.
Since taking office, he has introduced and co-sponsored legislation in support of lowering inflation, creating jobs, affirming women’s rights, protecting our seniors, and advocating for clean energy.
Prior to his election to Congress, Sean co-founded and led Recycled Energy Development, which focused on lowering energy costs and reducing carbon emissions, all while creating jobs for the people of Illinois.
Sean is committed to keeping in close contact with his constituents and has held hundreds of town halls & community events in order to listen to those he represents.
Sean and his family live in Downers Grove, Illinois.
8th Congressional District
Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi was elected to Congress in 2016 and is now in his fourth term representing Illinois’ 8th District, which includes Chicago’s west and northwest suburbs as well as the 41st ward of the city.
He serves as Ranking Member of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, making him the first South Asian American in history to lead a Congressional Committee. He also serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Committee on Oversight and Accountability as a member of the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs.
The Congressman is a Vice-Chair of the Equality Caucus and Co-Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Immigration Task Force. In addition, he is the founder and Chairman of the bipartisan Congressional Caucus to End the Youth Vaping Epidemic and the bipartisan Solar Caucus.
