Why This Election Is Important

The following is an open letter to the people of Addison Township written by the Dems for Addison Township Board candidates. To learn more about the candidates and their mission, go to the Dems for Addison Township website.

In Illinois, townships are charged with three basic functions: general assistance for residents in need; real estate assessment; and maintenance of all roads and bridges outside of federal, state and other local jurisdiction.

Addison Township (AT) has a budget of roughly $7,000,000, comparable to the 8 other DuPage townships. However, only 23% is going to the neediest residents compared to 41% at York Township.

Addison Township’s leadership salaries are 59 percent higher than the U.S. average, and AT salaries exceed those of all other townships nationwide.

Republican leadership has been failing Addison Township residents for years by neglecting to provide services to seniors such as meals on wheels, dial-a-ride, tax assistance, and flu and vaccine clinics. The food pantry is open one hour a week, compared to other townships that provide assistance multiple days.

This week, and on Election Day, April 1st, voters can elect leaders who promise transparency, fiscal responsibility and the services deserved by electing the Democratic candidates for Addison Township:

  • Supervisor – Bobby Hernandez
  • Clerk – Maria Vesey
  • Board of Trustees:
    • Max Ashrafi Joey Moore
    • Titus Dare
    • Debbie Sandstrom
